State-of-the-art resources, available in individual laboratories as well as via core facilities and cognate research centers, afford NUIN students access to the full range of neuroscience techniques. Northwestern’s institutional commitment to basic and clinical research is reflected by an extensive building and renovation phase that added substantially to neuroscience facilities on all campuses. Infrastructural investments have been accompanied by significant faculty growth over the past six years.
NUIN is fundamentally a research-oriented PhD program, although students must satisfy a rigorous set of course requirements in addition to completing a thesis. Students also receive training in teaching and other professional skills important for all career paths. NUIN accepts applicants from diverse backgrounds and majors (including psychology, engineering, physics, computer science, chemistry, biology and neuroscience).
Entering NUIN students are fully supported (including tuition, stipend and health insurance) for the duration of their graduate studies. Our laboratory rotation requirements provide an opportunity for students to experience unique training cultures on both campuses while working in a bustling city or quieter suburban environment.
